number of schemes to help people buy property funded by the Government or made available by the Council.
Shared ownership can offer a way of moving to alternative accommodation for those who are interested in owning their own home. It makes home ownership possible by allowing you to buy a 'stake' in your home - you take out a mortgage for just part of the full cost, for example 25%. You then pay rent on the remaining amount. This makes it possible to buy types of property that you might not otherwise be able to afford, or in areas that would otherwise be too expensive.
As a Council tenant you will normally be considered a priority for shared ownership.
You can apply to the homebuy scheme for an interest-free loan to cover part of the purchase price of a property (normally 25%).
