Board Training Good Practice Guide

Jon Rouse, Chief Executive of Housing Corporation, has commended Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation’s (TMO) innovative Board Training Programme. Launched on Wednesday 17 May 2006, the aim of the programme is to equip ALMO Board Members with the skills and knowledge they need to lead their organisations effectively.

Jon praised the Programme as exemplary and, as well as encouraging Housing Associations to make use of it, he sought permission from the TMO to feature it on the Housing Corporation’s Website.

Speaking at the launch, Jon told ALMO Board Members and social housing leaders from across England:

‘I am pleased to endorse the TMO Board Training Programme Good Practice Guide developed by Kensington and Chelsea TMO. Resident involvement, irrespective of tenure, is a high priority for us and Board Member representation is a major way - though by no means the only - of achieving this.’

The training programme was developed over two years from 2003 to 2005, and was funded by a grant of £10,000 from the Chartered Institute of Housing and Innovation in Action.

The guide introduces best practice methods of ensuring leaders have the confidence to make decisions that benefit residents and their wider local communities.

Jon Rouse added:

‘It is important that tenant board members are effectively equipped to contribute to their boards on equal footing with their other board colleagues. A board with a broad range of experience and skills is more likely to meet the diverse needs of its customers.’

The Board Training Good Practice Guide is now available.
