Fuel poverty petition

The recent and dramatic fuel price increases by the energy suppliers has been causing problems for the tenants and leaseholders of Kensington and Chelsea.

The TMO and the local Council are calling on the Government to review the support it can give to low income households to reduce the hardship caused by the increases in energy costs.

We are putting together a petition, which we intend to send to Ruth Kelly MP.

According to EnergyWatch gas and electricity prices have risen by 86.2% and 57.9% respectively over the last 3 years.

Many of the 5000 or so council tenants in Kensington and Chelsea who qualify for Housing Benefit will fall within the official definition of “Fuel Poverty” (someone who spends 10% of their income on keeping themselves warm).
