Hot on the heels of our “three star and excellent prospects” award from the Audit Commission, our Chair and Chief Executive were invited to a social housing summit at 10 Downing Street.
Juliet Rawlings and Gordon Perry, were chosen to represent the TMO along with a handful of other successful ALMOs’ from across the country as the Prime Minister and Ruth Kelly, the Head of Communities and Local Government could discuss the future of social housing in the 21st century.
Juliet Rawlings said “Both the Prime Minister and Ruth Kelly were very interested in hearing how resident involvement has been the key to our three star success and why ALMOs should be given the freedom to invest more money in council housing.”
The summit coincided with the announcement that TMOs in England are to be given new powers to tackle anti-social behaviour. Alongside the new powers the Prime Minister Ruth Kelly announced an additional £485 million investment to update run-down council housing as part of a programme to raise the standard of all social housing.
